Science fiction or real science?

Imagine a bad science fiction movie where a mad scientist goes around infecting men with a parasite that makes them stupid while making women seem more attractive. Apparently it isn't fiction. An Australian researcher seems to think it is true. (Except for the mad scientist scenario, people get infected all on their own.)

Australians come up with some hardly believable ideas that turn out to be true so I will try to reserve judgement. After all it was an Australian researcher who figured out that peptic ulcers are caused by a bacterium and not by "spicy" food. Imagine if we knew this in the early 70's, half the story lines of the Odd Couple would be moot.

As an aside, we know there are conspiracy theories for almost everything, and I found a link to one here. Apparently someone thinks a drug company tried to keep the fact that a bacterium causes ulcers a secret.
