Vote, But Don't Think About It Until Then!

I'm trying not to think about the election. It will happen, I will vote, someone will win. This two year long campaign is too depressing and much too long. Plus, I've realized that I shouldn't get worked up over "those" Republicans. I say "those" because there are a lot of good people who are Republicans and they don't realize that "those" Republicans, the ones behind the party machine, don't care about any given policy. Real people who call themselves republicans care about things, have values, are just as good or bad as anyone else. But the people they vote for, and more importantly, the people behind the elected Republicans, all "those" Republicans care about is winning. At the heart of it, policy doesn't matter. Winning and having power matters. Saying anything, doing anything, lying, whatever it takes to win is all that matters. They know that lying on national TV during something like, let's say, a speech by a Vice Presidential candidate is fine because the corrections won't happen leading the news or be on the front page of Drudge. The lies have an impact and that can't be taken away regardless of what the talking heads say the next day. The bottom line is you can't debate with people like this because anything you say doesn't matter. Nothing matters to people who just want to win, except winning. Whether a policy is effective or not, damaging or not, illegal or not doesn't matter one little bit. If stating that policy in a speech gets votes then it is a good policy. Arguing about it is a waste of energy, thinking about it is a waste of energy because the other side just doesn't care. To win at any cost is all that matters to "those" Republicans. I just wish real Republicans would wake up and realize this. That is why I am trying not to think about the election. Thinking about it just drives me insane.

Hi Peter, you've said all that needs to be said about this rollercoaster election marathon season. It has been exhausting, to say the least. Tomorrow we will go to our designated polling place and finally do it! Then wait for it all to resolve. WF from Palm Springs.
